Milwaukee's FORCE LOGIC crimping lineup spans 6-ton interchangeable-jaw platforms and a 12-ton U-die platform. Model number matters because a statement about a 2678 jaw, a 2978 linear tool or a 2778 U-die head is not automatically transferable to the others.

2678-20: the jaw is part of the compatibility decision

The 2678-20 manual identifies multiple Milwaukee jaw assemblies, including fixed BG/O configurations, a D3 jaw and a Kearney jaw. Milwaukee's current 49-16-BGD3 page states that the jaw accepts Milwaukee and competitive W dies. The manual's capacity matrix then changes by installed jaw and conductor/application.

That means “Milwaukee 6T crimper” is not enough information to pick a die. Record tool model + jaw catalog number + die family.

2778-20: U-die fit still requires an approved connector chain

The 2778-20 operator manual says to use the tool only with U dies and connectors for which they are rated. It also states that jaws, dies and connectors must be used in an approved combination and directs users to the connector manufacturer's installation instructions.

The same manual publishes connector-capacity ranges—for example copper lugs/splices through 750 MCM in the industrial matrix—but capacity is not a die recommendation. You still need the connector's actual die/index instructions.

Documented die-form fit

Milwaukee's individual W-style die pages say the dies are compatible with crimping tools that accept W dies, and its BG jaw page explicitly accepts Milwaukee and competitive W dies.

Connector approval is a separate question

A competitive W die seating in a Milwaukee jaw does not automatically establish that a particular lug, splice or tap is approved. Check the connector manufacturer and die index/application table.
