Greenlee Knockout Set Guide: Slug-Buster, Hydraulic & Battery Kits
Greenlee knockout sets span manual ratchet, hydraulic pump, battery-hydraulic and Intelli-PUNCH systems. The punch name alone is not enough: driver type, conduit size, draw stud and material capacity determine which Greenlee setup is documented for the job.
Greenlee compatibility shortcut
Separate manual draw-stud systems from hydraulic draw-stud systems. Greenlee explicitly shares hydraulic draw studs across Intelli-PUNCH, LS50L2 and the 746A ram, but that does not make every manual stud or punch setup universal.

Current Greenlee knockout-set families
Slug-Buster vs Standard Round vs Slug-Splitter
Slug-BusterSlug-splitting profile through common sizes
Greenlee describes Slug-Buster as a punch profile that splits the slug for easier removal. Its current product overview lists Slug-Buster through 2" conduit sizes, and many 1/2"–4" kits combine Slug-Buster punches through 2" with Standard Round punches above that.
Standard RoundThe larger-size path in many 1/2"–4" kits
Greenlee’s current 7310SB, LS50L11B4 and LS100X11SB4 configurations use Standard Round punches for 2-1/2"–4" while retaining Greenlee dies and hydraulic draw studs across the full set.
Slug-SplitterA separate Greenlee punch family
Slug-Splitter appears in selected Intelli-PUNCH 11-ton kits such as LS100X11SS4. Treat it as a distinct documented system; do not substitute the name “Slug-Buster” when checking replacement punches or dies.
Manual Greenlee sets are not the same as hydraulic sets
The current 7238SB manual kit is a good example. It includes Greenlee’s high-leverage ratchet wrench, 1/2"–2" Slug-Buster punches/dies, a 7/16" ball-bearing draw stud and a 3/4" ball-bearing draw stud. Greenlee specifies the kit for up to 10-gauge mild steel.
By contrast, current hydraulic and battery-hydraulic systems such as 7310SB, LS50L11B and LS100X11SB4 are documented for up to 10-gauge mild steel or 12-gauge stainless steel and use Greenlee’s hydraulic draw-stud path.
Do not upgrade the material rating by changing only the driver. The complete punch/die/driver/stud system has to be documented for the material. A manual-kit rating should not be overwritten simply because a related Greenlee punch family also appears in a hydraulic product line.
Greenlee hydraulic draw-stud compatibility
Greenlee makes one unusually useful compatibility statement on several current hydraulic and battery-hydraulic product pages: the same draw studs are used with Intelli-PUNCH, LS50L2 and the 746A ram.
This shared hydraulic-stud statement is useful, but it should not be extended to the ball-bearing manual studs in 7238SB without separate documentation.
Cross-brand use: what Greenlee actually documents
All Greenlee knockouts on selected hydraulic drivers
Greenlee states on current 7310SB, LS50L2 and Intelli-PUNCH product pages that the applicable driver works with all Greenlee knockouts, subject to the size and punch specifications of that system.
Other hydraulic-brand punches on LS100X11SS4
The current Intelli-PUNCH Slug-Splitter kit page states that the driver works with all Greenlee knockouts and other brands designed for use with a hydraulic tool. This is manufacturer documentation for that driver context.
Not a universal Greenlee statement
That cross-brand wording should not be copied onto manual ratchet kits or every Greenlee hydraulic combination. Verify the exact driver, draw stud, spacer, punch/die size and material.
Choosing a Greenlee knockout set
Occasional / manual7238SB-style ratchet system
Appropriate when a manual workflow and common 1/2"–2" mild-steel sizes fit the job. It is not the stainless-capacity choice shown on Greenlee’s hydraulic kits.
Pump hydraulic7310SB / 7610SB family
Useful when you want the traditional 11-ton ram/pump system and the broader 1/2"–4" range with hydraulic draw studs.
Battery hydraulicLS50L2 or Intelli-PUNCH
Choose between the compact 7-ton LS50L2 and 11-ton Intelli-PUNCH workflow based on size, force and automation needs. Both have current Greenlee kits with Slug-Buster punch ranges.
Existing hydraulic punchesCheck the documented driver statement
If you already own Greenlee or competitive hydraulic punches, verify the exact Greenlee driver page before assuming reuse. The LS100X11SS4 page is especially explicit about cross-brand hydraulic-tool punch use.
Replacement punches, dies and cases
Greenlee currently sells individual Slug-Buster replacement punches and replacement cases in addition to complete kits. Current replacement-punch pages identify the conduit size, actual hole size and material capacity, and some also state which driver categories may be used.
For replacement shopping, use the Greenlee catalog number whenever possible. “1-1/2 inch knockout punch” is not enough to distinguish Slug-Buster, Standard Round, Slug-Splitter, manual/hydraulic stud requirements or obsolete/replaced catalog numbers.

See the Greenlee Draw Stud Guide for the DSBB manual versus DSH hydraulic distinction and the 7/16, 3/4 and 1-1/8 inch hydraulic size paths.

Greenlee knockout set FAQs
What is the difference between Greenlee Slug-Buster and Standard Round knockout punches?
Greenlee describes Slug-Buster as a slug-splitting profile and currently lists that family through 2" conduit size. Several 1/2"–4" Greenlee kits use Standard Round punches for the larger 2-1/2"–4" positions.
Can a Greenlee manual knockout set punch stainless steel?
Do not assume so. The current 7238SB manual ratchet kit is specified for up to 10-gauge mild steel, while selected hydraulic and battery-hydraulic Greenlee systems are rated for up to 10-gauge mild or 12-gauge stainless.
Do Greenlee LS50L2, Intelli-PUNCH and 746A systems use the same draw studs?
Greenlee explicitly states on current product pages that the same hydraulic draw studs are used with Intelli-PUNCH, LS50L2 and the 746A ram.
Can Greenlee knockout drivers use other brands of punches and dies?
Some current Greenlee driver documentation supports cross-brand hydraulic punch use. The Intelli-PUNCH Slug-Splitter kit page is one example. That statement should not be generalized to every manual or hydraulic setup.
What is Greenlee Slug-Splitter?
Slug-Splitter is a separate Greenlee punch family offered in selected Intelli-PUNCH 11-ton kits. Treat it as its own punch/die system when replacing components.
