Greenlee Crimping Dies & Cross-Reference Guide
Greenlee publishes unusually useful die-compatibility information across its 6-ton and 12-ton platforms. This guide keeps Greenlee's own die families, industry W/U standards and required jaws/adapters separate.
Cross-reference rule
A Greenlee-to-Burndy die cross-reference establishes the die relationship shown by the source—not blanket approval of every connector. Confirm the connector manufacturer's current installation table before crimping.

Greenlee 6-ton die families
| Die family | Greenlee tool/head path | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| KC22 / KA22 | EK628L with CJ22 jaws; EK622L native path | Copper vs aluminum die series, conductor size, connector table. |
| KD6 / industry W-style | EK628L with CJD3 jaws; EK622L with 04292 adapter; ECCXL with UAW adapter | Exact W/KD6 groove and connector approval. |
| T&B 6-ton | EK628L with optional CJK jaws | Exact T&B/ABB die and connector application. |
Greenlee KD6 ↔ Burndy W-style cross-reference
Greenlee's published 6-ton compatibility document gives a direct catalog-number cross-reference for its KD6 W-style dies. These are useful when an existing utility die inventory uses Burndy W identifiers.
| Greenlee KD6 | Burndy W designation | Greenlee KD6 | Burndy W designation |
|---|---|---|---|
| KD6-10 | W-BG | KD6-18 | W-166 |
| KD6-11 | W-O | KD6-19 | W-243 |
| KD6-12 | W-C | KD6-20 | W-247 |
| KD6-13 | W-K840 | KD6-21 | W-249 |
| KD6-14 | W-161 | KD6-22 | W-164 |
| KD6-15 | W-162 | KD6-24 | W-237 |
| KD6-16 | W-163 | KD6-25 | W-239 |
| KD6-17 | W-165 | KD6-27 | W-28K |
Greenlee W-style dies can require a jaw or adapter
The same KD6/W die can reach different Greenlee tools by different hardware paths. EK628L uses the optional CJD3 family of jaws. EK622L uses the 04292 die adapters. ECCXL/CCX uses the UAW adapter for Burndy W and Panduit CD-2001 dies. This is why the site's compatibility records store the intermediate jaw/adapter instead of only saying “W dies fit.”
Use the Crimp Die Finder to check these tool-to-die-family paths automatically.
Greenlee 12-ton U-style and KD12 families
Greenlee's 12-ton EK1230L/EK1240L product pages identify KC12, KA12 and KD12 dies plus industry U-style dies. Individual KD12 product pages list 12-ton Greenlee tools and, for some 15-ton configurations, named adapters. The tool and die may therefore share a U-style architecture while still requiring the connector-specific die index and crimp instructions.
Do not move a 6T KD6/W designation into a 12T KD12/U head simply because the connector wire size is similar.
Check current Greenlee crimping-die listings
Search by the exact KD6, KC/KA22 or KD12 catalog number. Verify jaw/adapter requirements before ordering a replacement or adding a second die ecosystem.
Why the Greenlee compatibility table is valuable—but not the final connector authority
Greenlee's 6-ton compatibility sheet states that color-coded copper and aluminum lug/splice connections can be UL/cUL classified when used with Greenlee tools and named connector manufacturers under the stated system. That is strong evidence, but it is still application-specific. A different connector series, conductor class or die index can change the answer.
For Burndy connector-specific indexing, use the Burndy Die Chart. For Milwaukee-branded W and U dies, see Milwaukee Crimping Dies.

Greenlee Crimping Dies FAQs
What is the Greenlee equivalent of Burndy W-BG?
Greenlee’s published 6-ton compatibility table cross-references KD6-10 to Burndy W-BG.
What jaw does the Greenlee EK628L need for W-style dies?
Greenlee documents the optional CJD3 jaw for industry W-style dies and Greenlee KD6 dies on the EK628L.
Can Greenlee KD12 dies be used in industry U-die tools?
Specific Greenlee KD12 product pages identify supported 12-ton Greenlee tools, and Greenlee’s EK1230/EK1240 product pages also state compatibility with industry U-style dies. Verify the exact tool, die and connector instructions.
What does the UAW adapter do?
Greenlee identifies UAW as an adapter for Burndy W and Panduit CD-2001 dies in the ECCXL/CCX tool platform.
Does a Greenlee cross-reference make every connector combination approved?
No. A cross-reference can establish die-family/tool relationships, but the connector manufacturer’s installation table must still support the connector, conductor, die/index and crimp sequence.
