Choose a cordless cable cutter by cable material and construction first—not simply by battery platform. Cu/Al, ACSR, underground and hard-metal applications use different tools, jaws and blades.
Compatibility rule
Match the exact model, application and replacement/accessory family before buying. Similar size or physical fit is not enough when the manufacturer documents different blades, studs, jaws, shoes or supports.

“Battery cable cutter” and “cordless cable cutter” cover several tool classes
Professional cordless cable cutters are not one universal category. A compact service cutter for soft copper and aluminum, a 6-ton interchangeable-jaw system, an underground utility cutter and an ACSR/hard-metal cutter can all be battery powered while using different cutting geometries and replacement parts.
The quickest way to avoid a bad purchase is to identify cable construction first. Copper/aluminum conductor size, ACSR steel reinforcement, guy wire, medium-voltage cable construction and armor all change the tool and blade requirement.

Soft-metal capacity does not transfer to ACSR
A cable diameter or kcmil/MCM number by itself is incomplete. Milwaukee separates its 49-16-2772 Cu/Al jaw from the 49-16-2773 ACSR jaw. Greenlee likewise separates ESC50LX soft-metal cutting from ESG45LX hard-metal cutting. That distinction should stay attached to every capacity figure.
If a crew uses one battery power unit with interchangeable cutting jaws, verify the jaw model as carefully as the power tool. The same power platform can support different material applications only through the manufacturer-documented jaw path.

Search by exact model and material application. Verify whether a listing is a complete tool kit, a bare tool, a cutting jaw or only replacement blades.
When a cordless cutter is better than a remote hydraulic cutter
Battery cutters remove the separate pump and hose, which can be useful in panels, vaults, trenches and repetitive service work. A remote hydraulic cable cutter can still be the better architecture when the crew already owns a compatible pump/remote head system, needs a particular large-cable head, or wants the operator physically separated from the cut.
Do not choose solely by nominal force. Jaw opening, cable construction, work access and the published material capacity usually matter more.
Replacement blades and interchangeable jaws are part of the buying decision
Consumable cost matters on a production cutter. Milwaukee documents dedicated replacement parts for the 2472, 2672 Cu/Al jaw, 2672 ACSR jaw and larger utility cutters. Greenlee documents interchangeable CJ-CUAL and CJ-ACSR1 jaw paths on selected 6-ton tools.
